Christmas in Thailand

Although local Thai’s don’t really celebrate Christmas there are lots of visitors to Chiang Mai at this time of year so it’s quite easy to find somewhere to party or enjoy a traditional meal with most hotels and bars having small events. Ice on Doi Inthanon

If you’ve travelled from Europe, or anywhere in the northern hemisphere, it may not feel like Christmas in Thailand as the sun’s shining and the sky is blue! However, this week Doi Inthanon mountain in Chiang Mai reported temperatures of -2 and there was some ice on the plants. Nighttime temperatures have also been low this year and The Meteorological Department announced late Tuesday night temperatures would continue to drop on Wednesday by between 1C and 3C in northern and northeastern Thailand.
