Elephant Sanctuary

Situated beside a Karen village in a densely forested mountainous region, the Jungle Sanctuary is surrounded by spectacular scenery and provides a safe environment with happy and friendly elephants. Full day tours allow more time to be spent with the animals and a delicious traditional Thai food buffet.

Please note that the Jungle Sanctuary doesn’t allow elephant riding as it can harm the animals.

TRIP CODE: E2

Full Day at the Elephant Jungle Sanctuary

We’ll pick you up from your hotel in Chiang Mai in the morning and drive for approximately 1.5 hours to the south, passing through rice fields, hills and into the jungle. After meeting your English speaking guide you’ll take a short walk to a Karen hill tribe village, where you can change into traditional clothing. You can learn everything from your guide about how the sanctuary protects their animals and the history and culture of the area. Then it’s time to meet the elephants! In small groups, you will meet and interact with each of our friendly elephants personally. Learn about their behaviour, and discover the unique and interesting history of each animal as you touch, play, feed, and photograph them.

After a delicious traditional Thai lunch on our jungle platform we’ll take the elephants down to the river where you can help give them a mud spa and bath. Here you’ll also have a chance to swim and play with the elephants before changing into dry clothes and taking a scenic trek back to the village. Then we’ll return to Chiang Mai for early evening.
