The Coronavirus is 2020’s first global health crisis. As of 30th January there have been 8000 confirmed cases worldwide and the World Health Organization (WHO) has deemed risk in China as being ‘very high’. Please check with local authorities and take care to observe safety procedures whilst travelling to 8Adventures.
Currently, travel is still permitted to Thailand including from China; unless you are from Wuhan or a quarantined city. If you are planning to continue your holiday be assured that 8Adventures is a remote and uncrowded destination that is safe to visit. Whilst travelling through major airports you may see increased security and health checks. If you are feeling fine and don’t have a high temperature there is nothing to worry about, however if you have any symptoms of illness or flu it is recommended that you stay at home until you have been checked by a doctor.
At this time it is recommended that a N95 safety mask be worn whilst in transit and visiting populated areas. Once you arrive at our camp it is not necessary to wear the mask unless you have a cough or other symptoms. Washing your hands with soap, water and alcohol will also help stop contamination and 8Adventures have clean and hygienic facilities.
We hope that this situation will soon pass and until then we will continue to be diligent and monitor reports. Our staff will not be travelling to China and we will increase our hygiene protocols including alcohol hand sanitation points. If you are planning to visit Thailand from China later in the year, it is not yet necessary to cancel your holiday.
If you are suffering from any other respiratory problems, visiting the jungle where the air is fresher can help, especially if you have been affected by living in a polluted city. 8Adventures offer exciting adventures tours including trekking, rafting, ATV and village stays.
WHO’s standard recommendations for the general public to reduce exposure to and transmission of a range of illnesses are as follows:
- Frequently clean hands by using alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water;
- When coughing and sneezing cover mouth and nose – throw tissue away immediately and wash hands;
- Avoid close contact with anyone who has fever and cough;
- If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing seek medical care early and share previous travel history with your health care provider;
- When visiting live markets in areas currently experiencing cases of novel coronavirus, avoid direct unprotected contact with live animals and surfaces in contact with animals;
- The consumption of raw or undercooked animal products should be avoided. Raw meat, milk or animal organs should be handled with care, to avoid cross-contamination with uncooked foods, as per good food safety practices.
