Chiang Mai has officially been crowned the No. 1 City in Asia in the prestigious Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards 2025, reaffirming its reputation as one of the most cherished travel destinations globally. With an outstanding Reader Score of 91.94, Chiang Mai was also ranked the No. 2 city in the world, earning praise for its friendly locals, exceptional food, historic temples like Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, and its lush mountainous surroundings. Ethical elephant experiences, such as feeding and bathing elephants, were a memorable highlight for many travellers.
This accolade is part of a larger celebration for Thailand’s tourism sector. Bangkok, the vibrant capital, secured the No. 3 spot in Asia and No. 4 globally, with a score of 91.34. Often described as “fascinating and exciting,” Bangkok continues to impress visitors with its iconic temples, culinary delights, buzzing markets, and dynamic nightlife.
Thailand also made a strong showing in the Best Islands in Asia category. Phuket landed at No. 4, praised for its beautiful beaches and luxurious resorts, while Ko Samui followed closely at No. 5, recognised for its relaxed tropical charm.
Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), expressed pride in these achievements, stating: “Thailand’s consistent top rankings reflect the rich diversity of experiences we offer, from cultural heritage to natural beauty.”
The World’s Best Awards are based on over 657,000 votes from nearly 180,000 readers, rating cities on culture, cuisine, friendliness, and more. With Chiang Mai, Bangkok, Phuket, and Ko Samui all being celebrated, Thailand continues to shine as a dream destination for global travellers.
