Whitewater Rafting
Who can go on a whitewater rafting trip?
Everyone! From mild floats to extreme whitewater, 8Adventures offers trips on different sections for all skill levels.
Is there a minimum age limit?
For the mildest section of the river that we run (Class I-II), the minimum age is 5 years old and 50 lb (22 kg).
For the moderate level of whitewater (Class II-III), the minimum age is 7 years old.
For the advanced level of whitewater (Class III-IV), the minimum age is 15.
All guests under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian or have a parent or legal guardian pre-sign a release of liability form.
Do I need to know how to swim?
The ability to swim is not a necessity; however, it is good not to have a fear of swimming. 8Adventures life jackets are all Coast Guard-certified. 8Adventures guides are also trained in water safety and rescue techniques to ensure your safety at all times.
Do you need to be in shape for this activity?
Moderate physical condition is required for whitewater rafting; you should be able to climb two flights of stairs without stopping for a rest. If you have disabilities or cannot meet the physical requirement above, we can work to accommodate your needs.
What section of the river is best for me?
Beginners and adventurers alike will find sections of the river that suit their skill levels at 8Adventures. The best way to find out is to visit us or call us at 08-9000-7728.
What do the different ratings of the river mean?
Class I-II: Waves below 80 cm high, little navigation required, and low risk—best for young children and tentative adults.
Class III: Waves up to 1 meter in height; navigation is required through rocks and obstacles; rapids are challenging but not overwhelming—best for introductory-level rafting.
Class IV: Waves and drops of up to 2 meters; proper navigation is necessary, as the chance of falling out or flipping a raft is present. Participants must listen and respond to guide instructions. If you exit the raft, it can be an uncomfortable swim where you may bump into rocks—best for adventure seekers.
Can I bring a camera?
You are welcome to bring a camera, but it is likely to get wet while inside the raft. A waterproof or water-resistant camera is advisable. We also recommend using a strap to secure the camera to your boat or life jacket.
What is the best time of year to go rafting?
8Adventures runs trips year-round, but the Mae Taeng River has seasonal flows:
- Good flow season: July to February
- Low flow season: March to June
From July to January, full-size 6-person rafts are used. From February to June, the water is lower, requiring smaller 2 to 3-person boats.
How do we get there?
An air-conditioned shuttle from your hotel/guesthouse to the river and back is provided with the purchase of a half-day, full-day, or multi-day trip. You can also hire a car or taxi and make your own way. Directions are available on our website: 8adventures.com/maps-and-directions.
ATV Adventures
Do I need experience to ride an ATV?
No prior experience is necessary. We provide a safety briefing and a practice session on our test track before the ride.
Is there a minimum age limit?
The rider must be at least 15 years old. Younger individuals will need to be accompanied by a guide.
Do I need prior experience on an ATV?
No prior experience is necessary. At our facility in Mae Taeng Valley, you will start on the 8Adventures test track to get used to the terrain.
Can I bring a camera?
You are welcome to bring a camera, but be aware that it may get dirty and bounced around on the ATV. Using a strap to secure it is recommended.
Trekking Adventures
What wildlife might I encounter on the trek?
You may see birds, small reptiles, and insects. Mosquito repellent is recommended. Encounters with dangerous animals are very rare.
Are there any risks of slipping or falling on the trails?
Some parts of the trek can be slippery, especially near waterfalls. Sturdy hiking shoes with good grip are highly recommended.
How physically demanding is the trekking route?
The trek is moderately difficult, following a jungle trail and a riverbed where caution is needed on rocks and wooden bridges. A reasonable level of fitness is required.
